Press Release
The City of Markham's Honorable Mayor Webb along with the City Council and City Aldermen announce the construction of a New Markham City Hall to be built at the north end of Markham's Civic Complex immediately south of our existing City Hall Building.
"I am very proud to announce the official kick-off with the construction of The City of Markham's New City Hall Project", said Mayor David Webb. Over the past 2 years, I have worked with Officials to find a location and approve funding for this New City Hall Project. We can celebrate with the residents of Markham the fact that hard work pays off. Ground Breaking shall take place on Wednesday June 11, 2008. By the fall of next year, this New City Hall will be up and running.
It is the culmination of years of planning. The site was created by converting a municipal parking lot into a State of the Art, Energy Conscious, Community-Oriented facility. The current needs of the community are growing as former commercial lands are undergoing redevelopment. With contemporary architectural design, this New City Hall will reinforce the importance of the site as a gateway to Markham.
The New City Hall itself will house our current City Hall Staff with room to expand. In addition, this new building will be able to host community meetings and events.
Our New Markham City Hall shall be constructed by Castle Construction Corporation, a Markham General Contractor who has teamed up with the Olympia Fields office of DeTella Planera Architects.
